Billy Bean was the second ex-major league baseball player to come out as gay, going on to become the senior vice president of diversity, equity and inclusion. He died Tuesday August 6th at his home after a year-long battle with myeloid leukemia.
Bean played for severeal season in the 1980s for the Tigers, Dodgers, and Padres. He has the distinction of tying a record with 4 hits in his very first MLB game. In 2003 Bean releases a memoir titled “Going the Other Way: Lessons from Life in and out of Major League Baseball”
