The Atlanta Braves are fighting for a wild card playoff berth with division rival Philadelphia firmly in first, and multiple teams nipping at their heels.
Given this, the loss of star third-baseman Austin Riley hits hard, and they are looking at backups.
They are expected to bring in Gio Urshela who was released by the Detroit Tigers after batting .243 with 5 home runs this season.
Even if the Braves do make the playoffs they will compete without Riley who was hit on his right hand by a pitch. The Braves already lost stars Spencer Strider and Ronald Acuna Jr. for the season putting added strain on their organizational depth.
The question now is if San Francisco, St. Louis, Chicago (NL), or New York (NL) can catch them.
